Best general metal scrap service in Brisbane
A large number of old appliances, remnants of construction, broken metal framing, as well as random wiring is often found in residential homes, working trade properties, and commercial buildings. These items are all different sizes, shapes and weights, so storing them is a real problem right away, as they will stack up and become a hazard. Brisbane Metal Recyclers provides a hassle free and convenient service, servicing the whole of the Brisbane metropolitan area with professional general scrap metal pickup.

The logistics challenge
Property owners and site managers find it difficult to work with a disorganized pile of a variety of metal wastes. It becomes a massive amount of work and time to try to sort, load and haul the various items of sharp and heavy metals to the council's regional tip by themselves. Heavy iron edges and sharp aluminium edges can easily damage standard family vehicles or light utility trailers, while loads being shifted can create a significant risk to road safety.
It can also be very frustrating when the local dump site does not have any clear rules and takes hours to figure out what to do with the items. Our mobile collection teams are trained to use the appropriate equipment and tools to safely manage various unstructured metal heaps, taking away the whole logistical load from your agenda and allowing you to free up your time while still getting the minimal value of your mixed scrap materials.
What is included
Our mobile collection units do all the work for you. A general metal pickup includes a thorough service that is customized to your property's layout. You do not need to pre-sort materials, sort by metal type or move heavy materials down to your property boundary. From heavy industrial manufacturing areas in Rocklea, commercial construction sites in Chermside to residential areas such as Paddington, our trucks are available to service all of Brisbane.
Our professional team will be able to rapidly analyze the mixed loads on-site, and use the specialized tools to efficiently separate the ferrous and non-ferrous elements, giving full transparency of material separation. We regularly service large commercial warehouse clear outs, building demolition strip-outs and one-off residential tidy-ups in the backyards. Property managers, builders and cleanup contractors can have items collected from their workspaces and keep their work areas sharp metal free.
What is classified as general metal scrap
How it works
Call our local Brisbane office or submit an online request detailing the approximate volume of your mixed metal pile, the general types of items included, and your suburb.
Our professional crew arrives at the designated time, reviews your property access points, lifts and loads the heavy mixed materials safely, and clears out the designated storage space.
The collected scrap is transported directly to our central facility where it is meticulously sorted into specific metal categories, weighed accurately, and prepared for immediate manufacturing reuse.
Why it matters
Disposing of mixed scrap metal in landfills or in our backyards where it can easily contaminate our environment is an avoidable harm we are causing our local ecosystems immediately. Large, bulky metal structures do not decompose naturally, and take up valuable municipal landfill space very fast. With time, unguarded metal heaps rust and decay, releasing toxic chemical residues and heavy metals straight into the soil, and into local river systems.
In addition, if the metals are not recycled, the industries have to constantly rely on raw materials that are mined from nature. Open cut mining is an intensive, destructive mining activity that causes degradation of natural landscapes, loss of wildlife habitat and excessive use of fossil fuels. The processing of raw bauxite or iron ore emits tremendous amounts of greenhouse gasses straight into the global air.
By recycling at Brisbane Metal Recyclers, these hazards are avoided altogether. The energy required to melt existing scrap metal is up to 95% lower than that needed to process raw mined ore for aluminium, and up to 75% lower than that needed to process raw mined ore for steel. Metals can be processed and re-used without ever losing any properties, which means that by keeping them in the circular economy they actively reduce carbon emissions and maintain finite natural resources for generations to come.
Why mixed scrap pays
For most people, the first image that comes to mind is a chaotic landscape of torn-up steel beams, dented car bodies, and rusted household appliances, forming a landscape of the general scrap metal yard. But now, modern resource recovery is a very advanced science, a multi-billion dollar industry, with the high-tech frontier of advanced sensor-based sorting and multi-alloy extraction. In an urban and highly industrialised city such as Brisbane, “scrap metal” is no longer considered to be a single commodity but as a very complex urban mineral deposit.
Our top-quality general scrap metal collection services pay for mixed, bulk commercial wastes and break them down into high-purity element groups. We take away those messy, mixed-metal liabilities and convert them into clean and pretty-to-a-manufacturing metal, preventing millions of dollars in waste that would be filling Queensland landfills, but instead returning to your business or construction project.
Our Brisbane based general scrap operation is unique as we have invested in the automated handling of scrap logistics and forensic material diagnostics. Our facility also has in-house state-of-the-art heavy duty eddy current separators and handheld X-ray fluorescence (XRF) scanners that are more accurate than the basic visual inspections and low-ball flat-rate quotes standard yards use. This is a fast technology that enables us to analyze a complex load and cleanly categorize it into two important metallurgical classes – ferrous and non-ferrous. The high density core of heavy industrial recycling comes from materials like structural steel beams, heavy iron pipe, manufacturing plate offcuts and other materials that are demolished from Fortitude Valley, stripped out of plumbing in Rocklea, and manufactured from Acacia Ridge. The financial premium values of non-ferrous metals such as high purity brass valves, cast aluminium housings, and heavy copper wiring bundles are enormous.
We grade accurately all your bulk delivery, and charge you its real-time global market exchange price for the exact amount. As one of the most advanced general metal recycling systems in the world, it acts as an essential barrier against negative impact on Brisbane's sensitive local environments, as well as international carbon reduction initiatives. When mixed construction waste and industrial manufacturing off-cuts are simply thrown into regular landfill sites, ecological disasters are formed in the long-term. With time the metals become oxidized, releasing poisonous chemical residue into the topsoil and killing the underground water table and local river basins forever.
The recycling centre at our facility is state of the art with strict Queensland EPA compliance codes to completely neutralise this environmental hazard. We employ fully-bunded concrete processing areas, closed-loop fluid-evacuation systems and state-of-the-art dust-suppression systems that safely capture and recycle machine oils, coolants and industrial coatings. Brisbane builders, demolition contractors and fabrication businesses are undertaking much more than simply cleaning up their worksites; they are actively reducing their corporate carbon footprint by harnessing up to 90 per cent less energy than extracting raw virgin ores from the earth.
We are fully dedicated to delivering a 100% seamless, legally watertight and extremely profitable scrap logistics solution to Brisbane's industrial, commercial and trade sectors. From start to finish, we can arrange commercial bin placement on-site to suit your needs, heavy-duty crane truck and tilt-tray collection for large industrial clear-outs and fully calibrated digital weighbridges for absolute financial transparency. Completely eradicating the unsafe cash exchange, we provide the uppermost, market-based payments, and instant, safe digital bank transfers in strict compliance with the provisions of Queensland's scrap metal laws.
Our site teams are full-time, highly professional and work with extreme precision, keeping your site safety requirements and strict project deadlines in mind. From one box of mixed workshop offcuts to many tonnes of heavy industrial demolition debris, we have an unrivalled integrity and efficiency. If your property also has an end-of-life vehicle or old appliances to clear, we can plan both collections together, and larger loads that suit our mixed scrap metal pickup service can be arranged on the same visit. Call our local team of experts today and receive a quote instantaneously using today's most competitive commodity pricing and arrange for a quick and easy commercial collection.

You might be surprised by how much metal waste is sitting around your home, garage, or shed. Excellent examples of general household scrap include metal garden sheds and old trampolines, stainless steel kitchen sinks, pots, pans, and cutlery, metal bed frames, screen doors, and aluminium window frames, old car batteries, extension cords, and broken power tools, and whitegoods like dismantled hot water systems, washing machines, and ovens.
Both are ferrous (magnetic) metals but they are composed and processed differently. Iron (similar to old cast iron baths, pipes and engine blocks) is heavier, more brittle and is often used as heavy melting scrap. Steel is an iron alloy (such as structural I-beams, car panels and roofing sheets) that contains carbon. At the recycling yard, they are sorted by grades such as Heavy Structural Steel (which is thicker and purer and therefore worth more) and Light Gauge Iron/Tin (such as the colorbond fencing and appliances, which is thinner and is often coated and therefore less valuable).
Steel and iron are the world's most common and widely produced metals. Global ferrous scrap supply is extremely vast and the mining and refining of raw iron ore is not as complicated as the mining and refining of the rare metals such as copper or brass, so the cost of ferrous scrap is lower than the cost of non-ferrous metal such as copper or brass. However, the load has a high proportion of steel and steel is sold more often as a weight and bulk volume, than as a rate per kilo.
